In an effort to capitalize on the expected influx of imported LNG into the Gulf, Bobcat Gas Storage filed an application yesterday with FERC seeking approval to develop natural gas storage in two salt caverns in St. Landry Parish, La., near Henry Hub. The project would have storage capacity of 12 Bcf and an injection capacity of 900,000 Mcf/d, according to Platts LNG Daily. The project is intended to “mitigate ongoing supply constraints resulting from hurricanes Katrina and Rita [and] coincide with the in-service date proposed by certain LNG import terminals in the Gulf Coast region,” said Paul Bieniawski, the company’s vice president. Developers of Bobcat Storage are operated by Haddington Ventures, which is the company developing the Calhoun LNG terminal proposal in Port Lavaca, Texas. [Subscription required]
