In response to the Dubai Ports controversy, House Armed Service Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter has proposed legislation that would prohibit the operation and ownership of critical infrastructure in the United States by foreign entities. According to yesterday’s Platts LNG Daily, the legislation could have ramifications for foreign companies with a stake in U.S. LNG infrastructure, such as France’s Suez Energy, which owns the Distrigas terminal in Everett, Mass. “[Hunter] has an idea of what that [critical infrastructure] is but will leave it up to DOD and DHS to define what specific industries constitute critical infrastructure,” Josh Holly, the committee’s spokesperson, said to E&E Daily. A letter from Congressman Hunter to other members of Congress requesting support for the legislation can be found here .[Subscriptions are required to access both publications.]
