Canadian Ambassador Michael Wilson last week wrote FERC Chairman Kelliher to express concerns regarding the proposed LNG terminals on the Maine side of Passamaquoddy Bay. The Ambassador informed Kelliher that the Governor of Canada is conducting a study scheduled for completion this summer that examines the potential navigational, safety, and environmental risks posed by the LNG import terminals proposed for Maine. Noting local opposition by Canadians and requesting FERC to consider submissions from interested Canadians during FERC’s regulatory process, the Ambassador also raised the possibility that Canada may enact “measures to avoid LNG tanker traffic in the Head Harbour Passage,” a channel necessary for tankers to reach the proposed facilities in Maine. Wilson’s letter is available in the FERC e-Library in Docket No. PF06-11.
