Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Coast Guard that would allow local law enforcement officials to enforce federal law aboard vessels transiting Coast Guard-designated LNG vessel security zones in the Narragansett Bay. However, state representatives introduced legislation on Tuesday that, if passed, would prohibit Rhode Island law enforcement officials from doing so. The text of HB 8155 is here.
