The Oregonian yesterday reported that FERC Commissioner Nora Mead Brownell told attendees at a seminar in Portland last month, “No project in the end gets done if a local community doesn’t want it.”  She explained, “If you don’t have a good relationship with the community, you really have to think about whether that’s a viable project in the long run.”  In a related story, the paper reported that Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski will remain neutral until he learns more details about LNG facilities proposed for sites in Oregon.  “We’re not an automatic ‘no’ to having one of these facilities. But we need a lot more detail on how these facilities are going to impact their communities and what benefits they’re going to have for the state,” explained Peter Cogswell, Kulongoski’s deputy chief of staff.
