The Massachusetts State Senate yesterday referred to two joint committees proposed legislation that would allow AES to build an LNG terminal on Outer Brewster Island. The House had attempted to refer the bill only to the committee whose chair sponsored it, prompting concern from some legislators and opponents of the project regarding favorable treatment. “I think there are such strong environmental concerns in this particular proposal and I wanted to have it moved to my committee,” said Sen. Pamela Resor (D-Acton), chair of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture that will share oversight under a compromise agreement. The bill requires a two-thirds vote in the Legislature to pass. Read more in today’s Boston Globe.
