Despite positive statements by Bahamian ministers last week indicating that approval of AES’ proposed LNG terminal for Cat Cay was imminent, the Bahama Journal reports today on continued uncertainty and apparent governmental discord about the project’s status. In criticizing the current government for its unclear messages on AES’ proposal, former Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham stated that his party, the Free National Movement Party, which lost control of the Government in the 2002 elections, was prepared to approve AES’ plan if the environmental assessment found that the project complied with safety and environmental standards. “We were kicked out of office before this could be done,” Ingraham said.
