The Ventura County Star reports that a California Assembly committee yesterday rejected SB 426, a measure that would mandate the California Energy Commission to assess and rank all LNG terminals proposed for the state to ensure compliance with local public safety and health requirements. Clearwater Port LNG project manager Billy Owens testified against the bill, saying that “[t]he bill’s subjective ranking system would have added an unnecessary and confusing additional layer of process.” Assemblyman Pedro Nava (D-Santa Barbara) expressed concern that yesterday’s hearing held by the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee did not allow ample time for interested parties to express comments.
