Noting a history of cooperation between Canada and the United States on energy matters, Downeast LNG president Dean Girdis expressed a need for the two countries to extend this cooperation to LNG terminal development. Despite this traditionally amicable relationship, Girdis says it is “regrettable” that certain Canadian politicians have objected to the transit of LNG vessels en route to proposed terminals on the U.S.-side of Passamaquoddy Bay. Girdis said that the ships can safely transit through Head Harbour and Western Passages and that Downeast is “asking for nothing more than a fair hearing on both sides of the border.” Girdis’ statements are in a press release carried by Maine News Direct.
