Region
Connecticut
Description
Sutherland, along with the attorney general's office, represented the State of Connecticut at trial and was able to obtain a judgment of dismissal from the trial court in the first major challenge to the adequacy of educational programs under the state constitution. The court based its verdict on factual determinations in the State's favor. The case was later reversed by the Supreme Court on a 4-3 vote as a result of its interpretation of the Connecticut constitution.
