National Business Institute - Tax-Exempt Organizations from Start to Finish Conference
Sutherland Partner Matthew J. Gries is speaking at the National Business Institute’s Tax-Exempt Organizations from Start to Finish Conference, June 7, 2012.
His presentation, titled "Ethical Considerations for EO Practitioners," covers the following:
- Multiple representation issues: Who is the client?
- Attorney-client confidentiality within the different levels of an organization
- Confidentiality vs. disclosure to the IRS
- Self-dealing situations
- Excessive compensation
A member of Sutherland’s Tax Practice Group, Matthew regularly represents corporate taxpayers and tax-exempt organizations, including universities; private foundations; other religious, charitable and educational organizations; and family offices having philanthropic services as a part of their functions. He has experience in a wide variety of federal tax matters, including planning and tax controversy work.
