Gas Technology Institute Global LNG Interchangeability Conference
Sutherland Attorney David Wochner spoke at the Gas Technology Institute Global LNG Interchangeability Conference on September 11-12 in Houston, Texas. David's presentation was entitled "Regulating Gas Composition: The U.S. Regulatory System and Its impact on the Globalization of LNG."
As the number of LNG suppliers and purchasers grows and markets become more liquid, the quality of regasified LNG is an issue of concern at all links of the LNG chain. Gases from different sources have different compositions and properties, and new gas in an existing market may not be "interchangeable" with current supplies. If gases are not interchangeable, the results could be combustion problems for all classes of users -residential, commercial, industrial and process - as well as environmental, safety and operational issues. The GTI Global LNG Interchangeability Conference discussed the end user and supplier perspectives; current regulatory approaches, both domestically and globally; and emerging technologies addressing LNG interchangeability.
