ACC’s 2011 Annual Meeting: Learn Share Grow

October 23, 2011 - October 26, 2011

Association of Corporate Counsel

Sutherland is proud to be a returning sponsor of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s 2011 Annual Meeting scheduled for October 23-26 at Denver’s Colorado Convention Center. The ACC Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of in-house counsel from around the world, and since 1983 has become the premier annual event for corporate attorneys.

On Sunday evening, October 23, Sutherland and the ACC Energy Committee will co-host "Party at the Peak," a cocktail reception at Peaks Lounge at the Hyatt Regency Denver.

Five Sutherland attorneys will participate in the program:

W. Scott Sorrels will present "Dodd-Frank Financial Services Reform: One Year Later"  on Monday, October 24. Scott’s presentation will focus on the regulatory and legislative developments since the Dodd-Frank Act was adopted and will also discuss what still needs to be done in the future.

Catherine M. Krupka is also presenting  on Monday, October 24, and will be part of a panel entitled "OTC Derivatives Regulation: The Aftermath of the Dodd-Frank Act." The panelists will outline the significant implications of the Dodd-Frank Act on energy companies’ trading, hedging and risk management activities and provide helpful tips on how a company can take steps to ensure compliance.

Jennifer W. Fletcher will speak during the session "Outside Counsel Management – Project Management for In-House Counsel," which will provide an overview of legal project management techniques, along with tips and best practices for scoping projects, managing teams and budgets, communicating across stakeholders, addressing scope creep, and conducting post-project reviews. The session will be on Monday, October 24.

Robert J. Neis will present "Securities 301: Executive Compensation Disclosure." This session will take an in-depth look at executive compensation disclosure. The focus will be on completing the Summary Compensation Tables and other Reg S-K Item 402 tables, preparing the Compensation Disclosure & Analysis (CD&A) for the Proxy Statement and describing – in text, not tables – employment agreements and golden parachutes. The presentation will be on Tuesday, October 25.

David L. Wochner will present "Federal Agency Jeopardy: An Insider’s Guide to the Federal Regulation of Energy Companies and Commodities." Panel members will discuss the numerous federal agencies that regulate energy companies and commodities. The interactive discussion will highlight the scope and overlapping authority of relevant agencies and how these agencies regulate oil, gas, electricity, and renewable sources of energy. The presentation will be on Tuesday, October 25. David also will participate as a panelist in a session entitled "From Sea to Shining Sea: Offshore Energy Projects Under Siege" on October 25. This panel will address, in the wake of the BP Gulf oil spill, government actions taken to "avoid" such disasters in the future and explore what these regulations mean for the future of offshore energy projects.
