Sutherland Attorneys Stephen P. Kranz and Rachel D. Burke are speaking at the ABA 2010 Joint Fall CLE Meeting, September 23-25, 2010, in Toronto, Canada. Steve will present "New Breed of Amazon "Taxes" - Colorado's Clever Twist." Steve will address the constitutionality of these new notification and reporting requirements and the legal challenges that are being mounted. Do the new laws escape scrutiny under the U.S. Constitution's Commerce Clause? Do they regulate commercial speech in violation of a retailer's First Amendment rights? Will the notice regime lead to an overturn of Quill vs. North Dakota?
Rachel's presentation is entitled "Creating Intentional Grantor Trusts Using Section 674." This joint meeting is on behalf of the ABA Section of Taxation and the Trust and Estate Law Division of the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law.
