50 Years After Brown, What Have We Achieved and What Remains to Be Done?

April 23-24, 2004

Sutherland was a proud co-sponsor, along with the Program on Education Policy and Governance and the Taubman Center for State and Local Government, of the "50 Years After Brown, What Have We Achieved and What Remains to Be Done?" conference.

The two-day conference featured keynote addresses from U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige, Harvard University President Lawrence Summers and William Coleman, Jr., the last living attorney from Brown v. Board of Education.  The six panel sessions included discussions on changes brought about in the past 50 years by the Brown decision but focused on what can be done in the future to further the cause of the case.  Sutherland's Lovida Coleman who is the daughter of keynote speaker William Coleman, Jr. and  Al Lindseth participated in panel discussions.
