Sutherland Partners Earl Zimmerman and Clifford E. Kirsch are speaking at the 2010 Association of Life Insurance Counsel (ALIC) Annual Meeting, May 22-25, 2010, at Château Élan in Braselton, Georgia.
Earl is presenting "Corporate Governance & Risk Management, Including Principles-Based Reserving." This panel will address corporate governance issues and risk management, including the status of NAIC corporate governance proposals, board oversight of principles-based reserving, and the role of the audit committee of independent directors. Various insurance regulatory developments will be presented against the background of corporate governance law and good practice.
Cliff's presentation, "Proposed Uniform Standard of Conduct for Broker-Dealers and Advisers—Practical Implications for Insurance Company Products," will explore the proposed Uniform Standard of Conduct, which would apply to broker-dealers and advisers. It will look at the types of activities to which the Uniform Standard would apply and its practical impact on sales of annuity and life products, particularly with respect to sales of proprietary products and commission practices.
