Atlanta – Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Allegra J. Lawrence-Hardy has received the 2007 "Spirit of the Bench and Bar Award" from the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at the Georgia State University School of Law.
Recipients of the award are chosen annually for embodying characteristics and traits that further the goals of the African-American legal community, the judicial bench and the legal bar. Last year the organization honored Georgia Supreme Court Justice Robert Benham.
Deah Warren, president of the Georgia State BLSA, said the organization's members and the award committee were impressed by the efforts of Ms. Lawrence-Hardy – a litigation partner at Sutherland and the firm's diversity committee chair – to establish the Sutherland Scholars Program, a six-week summer initiative designed to prepare aspiring attorneys for their first year of law school, thereby greatly increasing their chances for success.
"As an organization committed to black law students, we appreciate this program not only because it is phenomenal for incoming law students, but also because it ensures the future success of BLSA nationwide," Warren said. "We honor Ms. Lawrence-Hardy for her commitment to diversity in law schools and diversity in the legal profession."
