ATLANTA—Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has been recognized with the William E. Hoffmann Service Award by the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN). Sutherland will accept the award at GAIN’s annual fundraiser on March 27, 2015.
The annual William E. Hoffmann Service Award recognizes an organization for its dedicated service and positive contributions to GAIN, an Atlanta-based non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal representation to individuals seeking asylum and to immigrant victims of domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual assault.
“It is important to give back to our communities and to use the law to serve others,” said Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman. “Sutherland has a long-standing commitment to pro bono service, and it is an honor to be recognized for the tremendous work our people provide by assisting individuals in these very meaningful cases.”
Sutherland has a long and distinguished history of public service beginning with the work of its founding partners, Bill Sutherland and Elbert Tuttle, on habeas corpus cases, including Johnson v. Zerbst, in the 1930's. The tradition of public service that they began continues today through the efforts of the firm's many lawyers and staff who provide civic leadership and pro bono legal representation to individuals and institutions within their local communities.
