ATLANTA—Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP is pleased to announce that Partner Allegra J. Lawrence-Hardy will receive the 2014 Community Service Award from the Atlanta Chapter of Spelman College’s National Alumnae Association at a celebration on October 11, 2014.
Ms. Lawrence-Hardy received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Spelman College. The Community Service Award is given annually to alumnae of the college in recognition of their dedication to improve the quality of life for the citizens of metropolitan Atlanta. While serving as chair of Sutherland’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Ms. Lawrence-Hardy was the architect of Sutherland Scholars, a summer pre-law school “boot camp” offered at no cost for students from historically black colleges and universities. Almost 300 students have graduated from the program.
“We commend Allegra for her dedication to her alma mater and to the community,” said Litigation Practice Group leader Jennifer Fletcher. “She is a significant contributor to our firm and to the community, and is very deserving of this wonderful honor.”
Ms. Lawrence-Hardy is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Georgia. She is a current or past member of the Georgia Legal Services Foundation Board of Directors; Atlanta Legal Aid Society Board of Directors; Leadership Institute for Women of Color in Law and Business Board of Directors; Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors; Hearts of Men Foundation Board of Directors; Atlanta Community Food Bank Board of Directors; the Atlanta Girls’ School Trustee Board; and St. Anne’s Day School Advisory Council.
She has been appointed to the Mayor’s Commission on the Living Wage; the Georgia Supreme Court’s Commission on Access and Fairness in the Courts; the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism; and the Georgia Supreme Court’s Commission on Domestic Violence.
She has served as President of the Atlanta Legal Diversity Consortium, President of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, and Chair of the State Bar of Georgia Women and Minorities in the Profession Committee. She is a longtime member of the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia and has served in a leadership role for the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. She also is an American Bar Foundation fellow.
At Sutherland, Ms. Lawrence-Hardy co-heads the Sutherland Labor and Employment team. She works with her clients on complex commercial and labor and employment matters. An integral member of the firm’s award-winning Legal Project Management program, Allegra helps develop processes and tools for improving the efficiency and delivery of legal services. She also is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
