WASHINGTON (October 22, 2012) – In recognition of extraordinary service, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP has been named the “Pro-Bono Partner of the Year," by Bread for the City. The firm will receive the honor at the annual awards luncheon on Tuesday, October 23, at the Madison Hotel.
Bread for the City is a non-profit that works to provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to those in need in Washington, D.C. Annually, the non-profit holds a Good Hope Awards luncheon for its network of clients, volunteers, donors and staff.
“For two decades, Sutherland has been standing on the front line alongside Bread for the City in our fight against poverty in the District of Columbia," said George Jones, Bread for the City’s Chief Executive Officer. “With their substantial contributions of pro bono and financial support to our programs, they have ensured that thousands of our poorest neighbors have safe access to food, clothing, social services, health care, and legal services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect."
Sutherland and Bread for the City have worked together on multiple fronts, including launching a rooftop garden project, planting an orchard, supporting the construction of the new health care center, and recruiting volunteers. Many of the firm’s partners, associates and staff are involved in helping the non-profit on a day-to-day basis serving as board members and planning its annual fund-raising event, “Art with a Heart." In addition, last year Sutherland sponsored Stacy Braverman Cloyd as an attorney for Bread for the City. The firm recently hired Stacy as an attorney in a role that will allow her to continue her work for the organization.
