8th National Consumer Finance Class Actions and Litigation Conference

Affinia Manhattan Hotel
New York,  New York

Sutherland Partner Thomas M. Byrne is speaking at ACI’s 8th National Consumer Finance Class Actions and Litigation Conference, January 27-28, 2009, at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel in New York City.  Tom is speaking on January 26, 2009 as part of a pre-conference Master Class on Defending Against Borrower Class Actions in Federal Court – CAFA, Removal, Certification, Settlement and Beyond.  This intensive class will guide attendees through today’s procedural complexities of borrower class actions and prepare them for defending and managing such actions in these high-stakes venues.

The post-CAFA period has led to a massive spike in federal class actions based on consumer protection/fraud, but the statute itself, as well as the areas of removal, certification and settlement, have created uncertainty and obstacles to mounting rigorous and complete defenses in federal court.  Attendees will obtain the pragmatic strategies, solutions and working tools needed to master the CAFA, jurisdictional, removal, certification and settlement aspects that materially change practice and standards in borrower class actions.
